The Best of Andrew Garfield - TSN era

"I saw [the Avengers], and I was blown away. And I’m going to see it again this weekend. I have no problem adding to the amount of money it’s making! [Laughs.] Joss Whedon is a genius, and it’s an incredible cast. I was very, very jealous, and I wanted to jump on the screen and play with them. It killed me that I wasn’t in it, but I understand why, and I’m not insulted. But hey, if Samuel L. Jackson wants to give me a shout, I’m there for the next one!"

Justin: You’re SPIDERMAN?
Andrew: No, don’t tell him; don’t tell him, he loves Spiderman! I’ve been trying to keep this from him…
Justin: You’re SPIDERMAN?
Andrew: Just … let’s move on as quickly as we can…
Justin: Why didn’t you tell me?
Andrew:  It’s nothing personal, Justin-
Justin: I thought we were … I thought we had something.
Andrew:  We do, we do, it’s just…
Justin: You’re Spiderman.
Andrew: Just remain professional right now.
Justin: And you didn’t tell me.

You have no idea how much this means to me. I’ve always wanted to come here as a fan and this is my first time, so here I am as a fan. I just want to say a couple of things. I’m Andrew Garfield and I’m gonna be here introducing this Amazing Spider-Man panel.

Stan Lee says that the reason Spidey is so popular is because all of us can relate to him and I agree. I needed Spidey in my life when I was a kid and he gave me hope. In every comic I read he was living out mine and every skinny boys fantasy of being stronger, of being free of the body I was born into, and that swinging sensation of flight. And, upon receiving his power, unlike most, who become corrupted, he used it for good, and I think we all wish that we had the courage to stick up for ourselves more and to stick up for a loved one more or even a stranger you see being mistreated, and Peter Parker has inspired me to feel stronger. He made me, Andrew, braver.

He reassured me that by doing the right thing, it’s worth it. It’s worth the struggle, it’s worth the pain, it’s worth even the tears, the bruises and the blood, and I wouldn’t be able to stand here in front of you guys right now without feeling that Spider-Man was here with me, with his reassuring hand on my shoulder, making sure I don’t fall over and concuss myself. He has inspired countless people; girls, boys, men and women, all of us. And he has saved lives, and he has saved my life, and I owe Web-Head a lot, and I owe Stan the Man a lot, and I’m humbled to be here like you do not know. To share the work that we’ve done, with all of you, and this is my first Comic Con, and this is definitely the coolest moment of my life, and thank you for being here and sharing it with me.”

Is there anything under that [Spider-Man] suit? What can you wear? ‘Cause it’s so skintight it seems like you’d see lines of underwear, or something like that.

"What would having spider DNA constituting a percentage of your blood — what would that do? So I studied spiders, I studied their movements and how they operate in the world and I tried to incorporate as much of that as I could. He’s a boy/spider in terms of how he moves, and not just in the suit. It also shapes the way he interacts with people. A spider is so sensitive; their skin is sensitive to everything. That’s the thing with the spider sense and the way he takes in everything. Imagine all of your skin was as sensitive as a spider, the slightest gust of wind would feel like a tornado going by. You’d always be rushing, that rush. What does that do to you? The idea of how he adjusts to that. And I looked at the idea of having more legs, more arms, and the spacial awareness. A spider moves up, down, side-to-side, all around. He’s not linear and with the knowledge of that spatial awareness and the fact that he can be here and then over there incredibly fast. The stillness of a spider and the lightness I found all of that very interesting to explore as well."

– Andrew Garfield on researching for his role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. I love seeing how into the character and the role he is; it warms the cockles of my comic book-loving heart to see true comic fans involved in these movies. Read the full interview HERE. (via stirpicus)
