TOP 5 DONNA NOBLE SCENES #3 | asked by passrevoked
[See also: top 5 donna quotes | tag essays ]Beneath her bluster and shouting and sassy quips, Donna has these beautiful, introspective moments - she’s so perceptive, and I don’t just mean intellectually (which she is as well, but that’s a post for another day). It’s this emotional intelligence and understanding she has that gives her such a depth of compassion for the Ood, for example, or the families that she knows are about to perish beneath the weight of flame and ash in Pompeii. It helps her get along with Martha right away, and prompts her to get to know the Doctor’s brand-new daughter when, for once, he has nothing to say and no hand to reach out in welcome.
Nowhere is this more evident, however, than in Donna’s relationship with the Doctor. In the space of a single day, she figures this strange, sad, skinny spaceman out - what makes him tick, how much he is hurting inside, how far and how wrong he could and would go with the weight of the world (several worlds) on his shoulders and a gaping hole where his hearts should be. She knows he is capable of terrible things, without someone to stop him… and, perhaps even more crucially, someone to keep him going.
(On that note, allow me to refer everyone to this heartbreaking coda in the Doctor Who comics about Donna, in a way, getting to say a proper goodbye to the ‘Martian’ she loved so very much. In other words, feel free to join me in crying over Donna Noble until the end of time.)
Oh my gawwwwwwd, that comic. *sob*
That COMIC. Augh, going to go sulk and then work on my JE-less headcanon now.
